San Miguel de Allende is a very popular small town in Mexico. So popular, in fact, that it almost seems like a wealthy American retirement community.
Along with the hoards of retired Americans roaming the streets, you’ll also find plenty of tourists celebrating weddings – complete with a “callejoneada,” where the entire tequila-drinking wedding party parades through the cobblestoned streets led by a huge, dress-up puppet called a “mojiganga.”
Despite the city being a bit more touristy than what we usually go for, it is a great place to visit for a long weekend because it is truly dripping with small town charm and the cobblestoned streets, coupled with the very well-preserved colonial-era buildings is a sight to behold (even with the ever-present drunk tourist).
No matter where you go or what you do in San Miguel, there’s always a celebration going on, so it’s a very fun vacation!
